The Rome City Commission announces its intention to hold a Public Hearing concerning the proposed 2023 tax millage rate at the City Commission meeting on Monday, July 10th, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 601 Broad Street.
The proposed combined rates for the City Government and City Schools of 27.076 will result in no increase of the millage rate from the prior year but will be an increase of 9.73% (2.40) over the calculated rollback rate for City M&O, City Capital, and School tax. The final rate is still to be determined and that rate is planned to be adopted July 24th.
The estimated City and City School tax for a property with a current market value of $250,000 would be $2,707 in 2023. At the 2023 roll back rate, the estimated tax would be $2,467. For a property with a current market value of $175,000, the proposed 2023 rate of 27.076 would result in a tax amount of $1,895 compared to the rollback rate of 24.674 which results in a tax amount of $1,727, a 9.73% increase.
If a homestead exemption applies to your property, a deduction will apply based on your specific circumstances. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on Monday, July 10th. Additional Public Hearings will be held on Thursday, July 20th at 10 a.m. and Monday, July 24th at 6:30 p.m.
